Shogun 7Bones Shiho

*Warning. Image heavy post.*

After a long wait, the Shoguns are here! As usual spam of unboxing pics. Only Shiho featured in this one, as I don't wanna rush the unwrapping of the rest of my Shoguns.

Cool cover artwork, and both the Tsuki and Gorei singles have their own artwork too! Makes me wish I had bought a set of singles too. Anyway, this one follows the Seven Bones colour theme and numbering.

Shiho looks great out of the box, and everything is in the blue 7Bones theme. However, the skin tone is kinda off, more like the green/gray lopers than the usual flesh tone. Wonder why they did that. Shiho himself comes with a helmet, a spare left hand to grip the sword handle, and the huge ass sword and sheathe that has 2 electrical cables coming out of it.

Closer look at the sword.

Now, where do those 2 plugs go? Into this mini battery stashed in the front right pouch of Shiho. The plugs do feel a little weak, so you might want to loosen the tightness of the sockets by twisting the plugs a bit when inserting them, or not push them all the way in if you're gonna remove it in future.

Here's where it's stored on the pouch.

One interesting thing about the entire shoulder armor contraption is that it's held together by metal rings instead of of plastic buckles. This gives it a stronger feel and I suppose it makes it easier to criss-cross the straps diagonally. Open up the strap on this side, and the whole armor can be removed.

Underneath, Shiho sports a design on the shirt. The zip at the collar is functional too.

Now for the tattoos. The first one is 7bones, the second one is apparently 'erection'.

The apron/cloth is tied around the body by a string that's knotted on the right side. It's removable, but I didn't bother.

New shoes! Nice, flat and stable.

Now,  for the shoulder armor. It's actually separate pieces held together by the strap, giving it some room to move. That said, the flexibility still isn't all that fantastic. There are also three screws holding the shoulder, chest and back pieces together, giving each piece some room to swivel.

Finally, here's a piece two velcro straps to hold the sword sheathe. The straps are a little short though, I have trouble getting the top strap to stay closed. It also interferes a little bit with the helmet when it's put on.

Some thoughts after fiddling with Shiho - take note how you remove the armor. I was stuck trying to figure out how to put it back on for awhile, until I finally relented and peeked at how Gorei's one was done. They could also have used a wide body for Shogun. After all that big armor and sword, you'd expect a more muscular build to hold it. The new slim body just looks a little off.

Speaking of new body, there's another slight change to this figure - the hands. Unlike the recent TKYOs that have an easily detachable wrist peg but strongly attached glove (you pull the glove and the whole wrist peg + glove comes out), the Shoguns have easily removable hands. They come off the wrist peg too easily. I haven't played much with my Shogun yet, but I've a feeling it may not be able to hold the swords in certain angles as it might just pop off.

That said, the Shoguns are a new TK figure that isn't a rehash of previous versions, and that provides a refreshing change of things. Anyway, more action shots and close-ups of the head and helmet coming up.

  1. Hey thanks for the review. I was looking for with details on the armour and the brief descriptions you had up were nice too. And yes, the greensish pale skin tone looks a bit off when place with the remainder of the 7Bones. Although on his own, Shiho would looking pretty cool. The original flesh tone though is still better in my opinion like you said. And this is a random question, but do you think the armour could be adjusted to fit a TQ? I plan on trying to do a kitbash or mixing. I'd try so myself but my shoguns haven't arrived yet due to a delay at the post office here. Anyways, thanks again for the review!

    1. Might look a little chunky on a tq, but should be doable. The straps are all adjustable and you can unscrew the chest plates if you don't want to use them.

  2. That's what I thought. And alright. Thanks for the reply!
